Week 9 Story: Executive Partner

The Destroyer was the best wrestler to enter the pro scene, as was foretold by the script. Every time he stepped int he Right, nobody left until he had rendered his opponent unconscious. To keep it real, nobody felt it necessary to tell him that everything was scripted. All of his success had gotten to his head, and he started wanting more from the league.
"I've never lost a match," said the Destroyer. "I want to have an official coronation as king of this league!"
The owners of the league decided it was time for him to lose, hoping it would lower his ego and make things easier for everyone involved. They set The Destroyer against increasingly difficult opponents, each time telling them that they were to actually fight him and go for the win. The Destroyer lived up to his name in every bout.
After many weeks of trying and failing to dismount him from his self proclaimed throne, one of interns lobbied an idea to the board of directors.
"What if you promoted him to The Executive Destroyer?" proposed the intern.
"What does that even mean?" came the obvious question from the confused owners.
"The title is pointless, comes with no pay raise or change in responsibilities, but it should be enough to make him calm down and cause fewer problems for us all."
After  some discussion among themselves, they agreed to the intern's suggestion and invited The Destroyer in for a meeting.
"We have heard your request and grant you the title of The Executive Destroyer. To commemorate this new name, we have a crown and sash for you to wear."
The group became nervous. There was no way this would work, he would see right through their deceit and smash them all into the wall, right?
After a few moments of thought, The Destroyer laughed loudly, shook the owner's hand with a great enthusiasm, and left the room with his new crown and title.

Author's Note: This is based off of Sun Wu Kung: Notcha, Son of Li Dsing. In this story, the title character has upset the gods, who send an assassin to kill him as punishment. Unfortunately, Sun Wu Kung is far too strong for that and easily defeats his attacker. This leads the gods to give him an honorary title to sate him and keep him at bay. I took this story and transposed it to a WWE style scenario without changing the plot too much.

  1. Hey Joe! I haven't seen much WWE but I know it can get pretty crazy! I think it's cool that you changed the story to that scenario though! This story is very entertaining because the Destroyer lives up to his name even when the odds were against him. I like the name the Executive Destroyer and it's good that he has a trophy (crown and sash) to commemorate him with. Nice job!

  2. I like the idea of lesser individuals tricking someone incredibly powerful into satiation. it shows that even with great power, those who hold it are not infallible. This is a theme in lots of mythology; Gods and powerful beings are fallible and prone to personal weakness. I think this story does a great job of conveying this idea clearly, because although he is very strong, professional wrestlers are not known to be incredibly savvy. I really liked the fact that the ending wasn't too dark. Sometimes you don't have to kill the bad guy.

  3. Executive destroyer, eh? I think even I could be fooled by such a name change. I don't know much about wrestling, but this was funny to read. It sort of plays on the stereotype that men with brawn have no brain. He is the strongest physically but easily fooled by those with greater intelligence. I think it is different enough from the original, while also staying true to its premise. That can be quite hard to do, so great job!
